• My Latest book ‘Australia’s Best Unknown Stories’ contains stories of our forgotten artists, poets, adventurers and nation builders – and the truth about some things Aussies believe!

The book has three sections - a collection of things Aussies SHOULD know, then some forgotten Aussie characters we should remember and lastly some classic Australian stories... in a section called ‘Tall Tales from Small Towns’.

I can’t believe my 30th Tamworth Festival is only 2 months away! This year Wests Diggers had a whole wall of the restaurant decorated with my ugly mug to celebrate 25 years of morning shows, which I started at Tamworth in 1990 - and this year it will be my 30th Festival – without missing ONE – I must be crazy!

So many other morning shows have started in that time that we have made a BOLD DECISION to move our Tamworth MORNING SHOW to the new time of 11AM. So this year ONLY SIX shows, still with Darren Carr, Katelyn O’Donoghue, Surprise Guests and Rustling Russell, lotsa laughs and great music

We tried starting at 11 AM on cavalcade day last year and had our biggest crowd – also many people on the Cruisin’ Country trips said they had never seem my show at Tamworth ‘cos it’s too early’ - so we had to either call the show ‘TWERLY’ or move it!

The six shows are Sat 17th, Mon 19th, Tues 20th, Wed 21st, Sat 24th and Sun 25th. The Australiana Bush Laureate Concert has moved to the evening  slot of 7pm Tues 20th in the Town Hall.

The play for Voices with Music and Songs, We Were There – The Story of Gallipoli is now available on CD. Those of you who heard it performed at Stone The Crows and Illawarra Folk Club will understand how it moves the emotions as it tells the story of the original ANZACS in their own words, with music and songs.

The final recorded version has the voices of the soldiers and nurses from Gallipoli, spoken by 3 fine young Sydney actors, along with songs from Katelyn O’Donoghue and Jim. David Wall on piano and Claire Brassil on cello help create the mood and you hear the troop ships’ foghorns, naval guns and sounds of battle as you take a journey through the Gallipoli Campaign.

The CD We Were There – The Story of Gallipoli is now available via mail order at www.jimhaynes.com.au
