Jim’s Autumn 2012 News
From Tamworth to Norfolk Island

G’day Folks …..    What an amazing year 2012 has been so far.

BOOKS:     The Trucking stories book, which was launched last October, did so well that I was still doing interviews and publicity well into this year. In the meantime I have been desperately attempting to finish a new book and work on planning for another two and a musical!

I am now close to my 20th book - yet, when I quit teaching in 1988, I’d never written anything but a few songs and poems and some academic papers! Life is amazing.

TAMWORTH:      After the floods and controversy at Tamworth last year, it was wonderful to see the crowds return for one of the friendliest festivals I can remember. It honestly felt like the good old days of festivals back in the 1990s. As I have a track on the new Slim Dusty tribute album (Not So Dusty 2) I did a few shows with the Bush Balladeers, which was a lot of fun. I also made a few appearances with Wayne Horsburgh, singing our new duet from the GALAH OCCASION album.
The Big Bush Brekky found a wonderful new hostess in Katelyn O’Donoghue and of course our old favourites, Rustling Russel, Darren Carr and Becc Holdorf were back and the crowds were up on last year for all our shows and my Galah suit overshadowed Robyn’s dress on the red carpet.

While on the subject of hostesses of the Big Bush Brekky, there is BIG news for three of our past hostesses. The lovely Casey Watt and husband Chris are expecting their first child in May, Amber Lawrence is top of the charts and kicking goals with her wonderful new album ‘THREE’ and Melanie Dyer is an overnight national celebrity due to the incredible reaction to her performance on THE VOICE. We are thrilled for all of them!

OVERSEAS TRIPS:     Once again this year I performed at the big charity concerts in the town of OPOTIKI, on the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand. This year I headlined the shows and young Katelyn O’Donoghue, who hosted our Tamworth shows this year, closed the first half of each concert.  It was wonderful to see Katelyn to develop as a solo performer and the crowds loved her. Like Casey Watt, Amber Lawrence and Melanie Dyer, Katelyn is a graduate of the CMAA ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC and her mum, Karen, completed the parents’ course, run by yours truly, last year. Karen and Katelyn and I were able to be tourists for a day or two, visiting Rotorua and the active volcano on White Island, great fun!

MAY brings another trip to WONDERFUL NORFOLK ISLAND with Noel and Ann Stallard and a group of around thirty for poetry, history and Country Music. This year Graeme Connors headlines the Aussie performers and many of our NZ friends from Opotiki will be there also.

CRUISIN’ COUNTRY:   I am once again part of CRUISIN’ COUNTRY later in the year and bookings are open for CRUISIN’ COUNTRY 2013 which will feature a HOST of stars, including Lee Kernaghan, Troy Cassar-Daly, Amber Lawrence, Gina Jeffreys, Adam Harvey and …Jim Haynes.

SUPER SPECIAL and NEW ALBUM:       Our $50 super special is still available. The BIG book of Aussie Verse PLUS a CD of 32 poems PLUS my Aussie WW2 book, ON ALL FRONTS. And check out the website for the NEW ALBUM, Galah Occasion and the double CD The Complete JIm Haynes Collection.

Thanks to Bob McGahan, Karen O’Donoghue & Grant Luhrs for the photos!

All the best – see you down the track,
Jim Haynes
